27-0

Game methodology

27-0 is an editorial rugby league game, not an official NRL ranking, prediction service, or historical record. The goal is to make the trade-offs in building a XIII visible and playable.

Player pool

The game covers the 17 current NRL clubs across the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Each entry is assigned to the club and era most relevant to that game card. Publicly available match and club-history facts are research inputs; the short descriptions, card assignments, and ratings are created for 27-0.

Ratings and positions

A player card has one or more rugby league positions, a peak-season reference, selected career indicators, and an editorial rating. Ratings are comparative game values rather than a claim that one player is objectively better than another. Players are selected into a standard XIII: fullback, two wingers, two centres, five-eighth, halfback, two props, hooker, two second-rowers, and lock.

Season simulation

The simulation starts with the selected XIII and applies a position-aware team score. The spine positions - fullback, five-eighth, halfback, and hooker - receive a 1.5x weighting because they shape more phases of play. The forward pack, bench baseline, opponent difficulty, and a seeded variation then produce a 27-round season: 24 regular rounds, three finals weeks, and a Grand Final.

A fixed seed means a shared lineup is reproducible. It does not represent a real match forecast or betting advice. The implementation is available in the site's simulation and game-type source modules, lib/sim.ts and types/game.ts.
